St. David’s Day

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant, as they say in the elderly country. It’s St. David’s Day and you know what that means. We celebrate on this day the foisting by the Welsh upon the Irish of Patrick, a real dick by all accounts. We also honor the common sense, decency and self-respect of St. David, Wales’s patron saint, famous for inventing the horse, the submarine, Buddhism and rounding up. Read the rest of this entry »

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant: Happy Belated St. David’s Day You Monsters

In Dewi Sant, St. David's Day on March 2, 2011 at 5:14 am

Yesterday was St. Davy’s Day and I forgot. So today is the seventh time I’ve celebrated the patron saint of Wales on this blog. Frankly, you’re lucky I got around to it at all. You’re not Welsh. Isn’t St. Patrick’s enough for you? Gd save your filthy, dirty little souls. The daffodils bloomed almost a week ago so I celebrated then. The only reason I remembered was a huge spike in traffic on this blog.

OK: Wales’ saint, daffodils and leeks and Y Ddraig Goch or the Red Dragon. Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant. Now get lost.

Happy St. David’s Day, you sinning bastards. This is the sixth time on this blog that I have congratulated those of you with the decency, self-respect and common sense to be Welsh. This is also the sixth time I have had to offer my condolences to you who lack those qualities. May St. David bless you anyway. Read the rest of this entry »

Adorable Welsh children planning your downfallHappy St. David’s Day for the fifth time on this blog. I am sorry that you are not Welsh. But I send you best wishes anyway. Chew on a daffodil and ram a leek in your hatband like the Welsh do, in honor of the saint we did not ship off in pity to Ireland. Y ddraig goch

Happy St. David’s Day

This is the fourth time I’ve celebrated the saint’s day on this blog. Along with the leek and the red dragon, the daffodil is a symbol of Wales, of which David, or Dewi Sant, is the patron, and is associated with him. Where I live, in Eugene, Oregon, Davey’s Day is the day the daffodils usually bloom and, right on schedule, one of the daffodils in our flower bed started to unfasten its petals today, despite the rain. I always associate David with the coming spring and that’s part of the reason for my affection for him.

So, see you, have a Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant, you sinning bastards.

Happy Belated St. David’s Day You Sad Non-Welsh Bastards

In Dewi Sant, St. David's Day, Wales on March 18, 2007 at 3:40 pm

I did not publish a post on Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant (St. David’s Day) this year like I did in 2005 and 2006. The daffodils did not have the common sense, self respect and decency to blossom on March 1 as they are supposed to. Perhaps it’s the year. Perhaps it’s the fact that we live in Southern Oregon now. I’m not sure. At any rate, they have finally bloomed and, considering it’s the day after the saint’s day of another famous Welsh saint, St. Patrick, I thought I’d send out these delayed best wishes. (Oh, yes. Patrick was a Welshman. He took pity on the Irish. And so should we all.)

Today is St. David’s Day or Dewi Sant. The daffodils in Eugene are blooming on cue, except in our side yard where they are being stubborn and mocking my Welshness.

Yesterday was Dydd Dewi Sant, which I did not know until I listened to a BBC show from yesterday just now. As a Welshman, I quickly realized I had sinned greviously and promptly punched myself in the face, as is the custom in Wales.

I should have known it was Dydd Dewi Sant, as the daffodils had popped out all at once in splashes of yellow all over town.
