Article on Blogging and Employment

My article is coming out next Monday. It covers the friction between bloggers and their employers. I’ll post a link here when it’s out. I also intend to post the reams of interview materials and links I could not use in the article.

I will also share the results of an HR organization’s survey I provoked with my incessant yammering. There are some interesting statistics. Because it is the first of its kind I know of, though, they are limited.

Sorry I wasn’t able to get back to you yesterday. The friction between employers and blogging employees will heat up significantly in the next six months as they (the employers) begin to learn how many of their employees are actually blogging- and that they (the bloggers) will invariably discuss their company environment. Few firms have policies covering blogs but most will attempt to stretch other policies about ‘negative’ publicity and find them wanting.

Unfortunately, only the most progressive employers will recognize the performance and retention value of creating a corporate culture that allows blogging. And almost no firm save microsoft has blogs embedded in their recruiting process. (see Sunday Jan 9
